CBS: Officer Herrera Goes Public
The man must have had an extremely difficult time. Just picture it: not being able to talk to, or let someone in. Psychologically, the impact must have been huge. It would be enough to drive anyone up the walls.
Fear is a great motivator to prevent a person in his actions. Fear of what others may think, fear of what others may say, but mainly fear of the consequences. Especially when it could result in being hurt, physically, emotionally, or mentally. We face smaller fears every day, but a greater fear takes courage to overcome. Some gather up that courage right away, others need a bit more time to do so.
When the situation gets too uncomfortable and calls for action, often the fear is set aside, to improve the comfort-zone. The walls must have been closing in on Herrera to decide to go public. It sure took some guts to break this self-inflicted solitary confinement.
I am not quite sure whether Herrera had Social Anxiety Disorder or Agoraphobia. Either way, I am glad he is getting out and shows up in public again. He might find out he should have done it sooner. The tale will tell.
